Behind the scenes: how we caption every lesson
Captions started as an accessibility requirement. They turned out to be the most-used feature we ship.
Behind the scenes: how we caption every lesson
Every lesson is captioned before it is published. That began as an accessibility commitment and stayed for a much more ordinary reason: a large share of viewing happens with the sound off, in a car, in a waiting room, or next to a sleeping sibling.
Captions are generated automatically and then corrected by the educator, because an auto-caption that mishears a technical term is worse than no caption at all — it teaches the wrong word confidently.
They are also searchable, which is how "find the bit where she explains variables" became a thing you can actually do.
